Kind, Gentle, Social
The St. Bernard is a very large working breed from the western Alps. They were famously known as search and rescue dogs with a keen sense of smell. A St. Bernard is very smart and eager to please by nature but tend to be stubborn and test boundaries. Therefore, start training at a young age before your cute and clumsy puppy becomes too big to control.
These gentle giants are wonderful nanny dogs due to their patient and loyal nature. St. Bernards are sweet and tolerant with children, always ready for playtime. They are loyal and show true devotion to their family.

The giant St. Bernard dog has a life expectancy of 8-10 years.
Size & Activity Level
A massive breed, the St. Bernard will grow between 120-260 pounds. They overheat easily and love nothing more than a good romp in the snow. This breed is relatively inactive indoors but will enjoy a long leisurely walk.
Care & Grooming
St. Bernards are heavy shedders who blow coat twice a year. They are profuse droolers as well as noisy snorers. Plan on frequent brushing to prevent mats behind ears and on legs. Be sure to monitor food and exercise levels to head off possible joint and structure issues.
