Energetic, Smart, Lovable

Breed Overview

The Goldendoodle is known as a cross breed, mix, hybrid, or sometimes a designer breed. Not being a true breed, they are a cross of two pure-breeds. In effect, they result from breeding a Standard Poodle with a Golden Retriever. Additionally, these dogs started to gain popularilty in the mid-1990’s. By the mid-2000’s they had gained world wide attention and demand. Equally important to note, they are smart, loving, and family oriented. Goldendoodles are super fun friends with happy, exuberant personalities. Eager to please, they get on well with most animals and love kids. Furthermore, they are affectionate and supportive pals. In fact, they can be versatile working dogs. Goldendoodles are also successful therapy dogs, guide dogs and service dogs.

Goldendoodle Size & Activity Level

This Designer Breed will range in size from 50-90 pounds and hence, take on a variety of appearances. Important to note, they can look more Poodle or show strong signs of Golden Retriever.  With that in mind, it’s hard to determine how much of each parent they will inherit. Nevertheless, they are super adorable, eager to please, and extremely loyal family members. A good amount of exercise is required for these dogs. A secure yard is especially necessary, or a few long walks per day. Energetic and playful, this breed is a great choice for active families.

Depending upon how their gene pool plays out, Goldendoodles can have 3 types of fur – straight, wavy, and curly.

Grooming can vary.  Doodles can be quite colorful – black, grey, cream, orange, and red are popular, and even multicolor is possible. Also important to note, these pups are considered non- to light-shedding. When coats are kept short, maintenance becomes more minimal. Overall they tend to be a healthy, solid breed, as most “mixes” usually are.
