DACHSHUND
Determined, Independent, Clownish

Breed Overview
The Dachshund originated in Germany in the 16th Century. “Dachshund” meaning “badger dog” in German. In fact, they were bred to enthusiastically dig into a badger’s den, and hunt them. Indeed, their long, low body made this job easier for him than for other dogs. Sometimes they are often referred to as “hot dogs”, weiner dogs”, or “sausage dogs”.
A Dachshund is very happy and clownish. Significantly energetic, independent and determined small dogs. Notably, they are super friendly and enjoy human companionship. Kids and other household animals get on well with Dachshunds. By and large, they are always ready to have fun and with an upbeat, playful personality they will win your heart.

Life Expectancy
The Dachshund lives approximately 12-15 years.
Size & Activity Level
The Doxi will come in 2 sizes. Standard weighs up to 32 pounds. Miniature weighs up to 11 pounds. Both are part of the Herding Group.
The Dachshund will be lively and playful and require limited exercise. A medium-length walk will suffice for this short-legged breed. These guys quickly tire out easily, so exercise provided should be given at different times rather than one long walk. Furthermore, the breed is prone to back problems so high jumping should never be allowed.
Care & Grooming
Coats come in 3 Varities of style:
The Wired- Haired Dachshund is corse and wiry. These do not require too much maintenece, but an ocassional brushing. A nice wipe down when should they smell stinky or bath on ocassion will suffice.
The Long-Haired Dachshund requires a good amount of grooming. To begin with, he is low to the ground and a magnet for sticks, twigs, and burrs stuck in his coat. These should be removed daily. Brushing the coat should be done on a regular basis to prevent tangling.
The Smooth-Haired variety doesn’t require much grooming. An occasional wipe down with a damp towel to remove to remove any dead or loose hair will keep him looking sharp.
With this being said, your Doxi will always need a regular ear clean, nail trim, and teeth cleaning. A high quality diet will be necessary to keep them trim and fit. Always consult your vet or breeder for more information.
