COCKAPOO
Fun-Loving, Patient, Sweet

Cockapoo Breed Overview
A mixed breed dog that results from the mating a Cocker Spaniel with a Poodle. Most often, a Toy or Mini Poodle was used in the process. A Cockapoo is small, but has an adorable big dog personality. This cross breed or “designer mix” became popular back in the 1950’s. As a matter of fact, they became the “first and oldest” designer dog that we have come to love. Friendly and family oriented, this dog is a true companion, and people pleaser. A perfect mate who can fit into a multitude of lifestyles. Good with kids, old and young, this dog loves being part of a family.

Life Expectancy
The life expectancy of the Cockapoo is 14-16 years.
Size & Activity Level
A Cockapoo comes in 3 sizes, most popular being the Mini:
- Toy- 10-12 pounds – Cocker Spaniel/ Toy Poodle
- Mini- 13-18 pounds – Cocker Spaniel/ Mini Poodle
- Standard- 19-40 pounds – Cocker Spaniel/ Standard Poodle
This dog has minimal exercise needs when either Toy or Mini. The larger Standard will need a bit more time exercising. A securely fenced backyard or several good walks per day will suffice. Indoor playtime with plenty of toys will keep them entertained.
Care & Grooming
Cockapoo’s are popular with allergy sufferers, as their coats are low-shedding. Coats can vary from dog to dog as with all mix breeds. Therefore, they can be curly like a Poodle, or sleek like the Cocker. There are many variations in the mix. Either way they are a handsome, cutie pie of a dog. Colors will vary greatly from Tan, Red, Brown, Sable, Black, White, Silver and many parti colors.
The Cockapoo will need weekly brushing. Actually most coats are kept on the shorter side for a neat, well-groomed appearance. Their large floppy ears will need monthly cleaning. Further, they are prone to ear infections, so it is important to keep ears dry and clean. Nails and teeth will also need a monthly checkup. Ultimately, they are an overall healthy breed.
