Breed Overview
The Germany Shephard Dog was Germany, and are part of the Herding Group. This very popular breed is one of the most recognizable dog breeds in the world. Specifically bred for intelligence and versatility, they are obedient and loyal, with an aloof, suspicious disposition.
Shepherds possess a courageous and confident nature which makes them suitable for many types of work. Guard dogs, and search-and-rescue, as well as a loyal family companion to name a few. They are the breed of choice for both the military and police.
German Shepherds are curious, making them excellent guard dogs and highly suitable for search missions. Shepherds can become over-protective of their family and territory, especially if not socialized correctly. Being super smart, obedient and protective of their owners make them highly desirable protectors. They are not inclined to become immediate friends with strangers.

The life expectancy of the German Shephard Dog is 9-13 years.
Size & Activity Level
Ranging from 50-90 lbs., German Shepherds have a high energy level. They need daily exercise, both physical and mental, to keep them busy and fit. These active dogs who will do best with smart, active owners able to give them focused attention, exercise, training, and lots of one-on-one time. These dogs live to learn and have a purpose.
Care & Grooming
Their medium length coat with thick undercoat requires frequent brushing, earning them the nickname German Shedder. Be prepared for plenty of vacuuming. The undercoat sheds heavily in spring and fall, and the German Shepherd must be brushed and bathed frequently during that time to get out all the loose hair. If you have allergies this is not the breed for you. Standard colors include black & tan, black & silver, red & black, gray, and sable.
