Bred in Scotland by Lord Tweedmouth, AKC recognized the breed in 1932. This good looking dog has many jobs. Working for law enforcement, therapy dogs, and retrievers for hunters, to name a few. In particular, their most special role is being a loyal, family companion. Being enamored by kids and other animals, while being protective of their owner, only adds to their charm. Hence, they thrive on lots of activity, and a tight family environment.

The English Golden Retriever ranges in size from 55-75 pounds, and is part of the Sporting Group. Notably, they are very active and need plenty of playtime. This is important to note, as good long walks will keep them in shape. A large secure outdoor yard is necessary as well. Apartment living will not serve them well. Significantly, they are not picky with their food, and easy to please. Thus, they have the tendency to overeat. With that in mind, one should monitor their daily in-take.
Care & Grooming
The English Golden Retriever has a dense, water repellant, double coat. In fact, they shed their coats twice a year. Regular brushing a few times a week will keep them looking sharp. While some coats are wavy, others tend to be long and straight. Common colors will be cream, light golden, and golden. Bathing will be necessary when they start smelling stinky.
